Procedure guide
IV therapy at medical spas and IV clinics infuses fluid, vitamins, minerals, glutathione or NAD+ into a vein. Outside treatment of a diagnosed deficiency, controlled trials have not shown a benefit for wellness, skin or anti-aging uses.

The treatment
An IV drip puts a solution straight into a vein, so nothing has to be absorbed through the gut. A 1.25 g dose of vitamin C gave a mean peak blood level of 885 micromol/L by vein and 134.8 micromol/L by mouth.
Most drips are mixed by compounding pharmacies, not sold as FDA-approved products. There are no FDA-approved glutathione products in the US. The one FDA-approved IV vitamin C, Ascor (2017), is labeled for scurvy only, for up to 1 week, at 200 mg a day for adults.
Trials are few and small. A placebo-controlled pilot of the Myers' cocktail in 34 adults with fibromyalgia found no significant difference from placebo. A 2026 systematic review found no outcome trials of IV NAD+ for anti-aging or wellness.
Compounded drips have caused outbreaks. In 2026 FDA counted at least 30 patients with adverse events after IV glutathione made from a dietary supplement grade ingredient, and CDC counted more than 25 ill people in Texas, Washington, Florida and New York.
